stamina.bittraffic.com apache and php updates!

Dear clients,

We have performed long overdue upgrades to apache and php on stamina.bittraffic.com! We are currently running httpd-2.2.11(apache) and php-5.2.8. The system is also running the latest and greatest FreeBSD 7.1 kernel. When compared with the best performing Linux kernel (2.6.22 or 2.6.24) performance is 15% better. This was a grueling update and took some time. I myself worked on this issue for several hours. If you stop by our Web Chat or IRC be sure to give a shout out to Rich-Boy(aka Chris) we owe him a very special thanks. You can read more information about these releases on freebsd.org We appreciate everyone’s patience through the updates which are at least a very rare occurance.

Thanks,

stamina.bittraffic.com kernel upgrade

BitTraffic’s flagship server, Stamina, has had its base system upgraded to the latest version of FreeBSD (7.1-Release). This was a big change meaning that a compatibility package was needed to be installed to allow for full functionality for applications created for FreeBSD 6.x.

The upgrade also means that user’s software may need a helping hand finding the updated binaries. In most cases recompiling the software will suffice, to fix UnrealIRCD please use the below command and for other software please follow the software developer’s instructions which will be similar;

make clean; ./Config -quick && make

Thank you for your patients during the upgrade stages, we always try to reduce downtime as much as possible.
