OpenVZ system kernel patched

The OpenVZ system kernel was patched due to a known issue regarding VPS’s not rebooting properly and causing kernel panics. We attempted to reboot a VPS at the request of a client without luck. The VE never completely shut down and kept partially running. This caused the kernel to panic, the load continued to rise until the server would eventually crash. We did some research and discovered this was a known issue. The OpenVZ system was online for nearly 230 days we didnt want to restart but it was inevitable. We quickly installed the kernel update and restarted the system before it crashed on its own. The system is now back online is operating excellent. If you have absolutely any issues please submit a ticket at http://support.bittraffic.com We are happy to help.

Thank you,

Back Up Clarification

The reason we do not offer back up services is simply because we would have to store double the data, and use double the bandwidth. Thus we would have to offer smaller hosting plans with stricter limits. Bandwidth limits, less disk space, emails, overall features would have to be reduced for us to be able to do this. Please take advantage of the Back Up feature inside DirectAdmin. If your not sure how to use it check out Site-Helper for all your DirectAdmin questions, or feel free to contact support any time! Download the backup to your personal HD once it has been completed so that you know for sure your data is safe.

Thanks everyone,

Hercules Data Loss

We regretfully announce that we are unable to retrieve any data from the failed hard disk drive. We hope that most of our clients have used the DirectAdmin back up feature to create and download backups of their websites and miscellaneous projects. This is something we do mention in our TOS, but not something that we have pressed users to perform. Due to this horrible situation we will send out monthly reminders to have users create their own backups. If you would like to learn more about backing up your website and hosted projects please visit Site-Helper. We are incredibly sorry for the loss of data that has effected around 110 of our clients. We feel the loss for each and every client. Not just the loss of a single project. We hope that our new monthly newsletters and influence to create and store backups will help prevent this type of situation in the future. We are doing all that we can to develop high quality internet services and maintain great prices. We do our absolute best for our clients and strive to provide you with the best customer service and friendly support available. Please let us know if you need absolutely any assistance.

Thank you sincerely,

Eric

Hercules Updates #2

We have been working non-stop on this issue trying our absolute best to make haste. The system hercules.bittraffic.com is back online and fully functional running the all new FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE along with all the latest and greatest software versions. We will have to re-add installatron at a later time (this will not cause any downtime) Hercules is now ready for use and we have began adding users back into the system. We are still attempting to recover the data from the failed hard drive and will keep everyone updated on our progress. We hope for the best and appreciate your patience. We will make another post soon to keep everyone updated.

Thank you,

Hercules Updates

This post is in regards to hercules.bittraffic.com. I would like to start off by thanking everyone very much for their patience in this tense moment.

The previous post regarding the OSSEC issues is probably false to blame the software. There were several odd system wide issues that effected new accounts and existing accounts. To fix these issues with domain administration, dns management, ssh access, and webalizer, we had to upgrade our DirectAdmin software which manages the services on the system. These services being httpd, sshd, ftpd, vm-pop3d, etc… This error appeared from no where and was not caused by administration. During the reinstall of DirectAdmin the system froze and became unresponsive. After several reboots we were able to restart the system only to have it crash minutes later. After struggling with the system for several hours we finally completed the update and installation of new web server software, openssl, directadmin and other softwares. The system was in excellent running order and upon reboot we encountered yet more new issues. After extensive research and hours of testing we have determined that the systems hard drive has failed. This is part of the reason the system had frozen during the new software updates and part of the reason for the instability the past few days.

This hard drive has been in use by our company and cilents for nearly 2 years. There is no reason it should have failed and came without warning. We are now having a new hard drive installed in the system, and the old hard drive added as a secondary drive so we can spare all the data possible. It might be that the /usr/home directory was not effected and there is no data loss. The new hard drive and operating system will be installed and our technicians will begin working on the system and migrating everyone’s data asap. It is being installed right now 7PM GMT. You will be assigned the same IP’s and more then likely will recover all of your data. I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am for the inconveniences. I would like you all to know that we provide the absolute best service we can. Hardware rarely fails and its unfortunate that we have been effected by this. We will start the merge into the new system immediately. We will update the status site when the new system is available. Since its a fresh clean install it will already be running all the latest software so there will be no updating to wait on.

Thank you sincerely for your patronage,

Eric

hercules freeze during software updates

Hercules has been restarted yet again. This time after only 2+ days of uptime. We greatly apologize for this unannounced downtime and inconvenience. During the update our or web server and user control panel software the system froze for no apparent reason. The system became unresponsive and we were not able to remote reboot. We had our data center technician restart the system for us and now the system is back online and performing excellent. We are running the latest versions of apache, directadmin, php, and openssl. DirectAdmin is still offline on hercules due to license update errors. We are receiving assistance from the DirectAdmin team and hercules should be back to full working order within a few hours. We greatly appreciate everyones patience with this issue and again sorry for the service disruptions.

Thank you,

Eric
