Updates!

Due to lack of productivity, very old hardware, and high cost the server stamina.bittraffic.com is going to be disconnected. This includes all 72.20.24.* IP addresses. The system has half the specs of any server in the same price range. We will bring it back as a Citrix XenServer and we will begin our cloud computing/redundancy as discussed previously. We will be able to host all the same services + VPS/VDS and other services at an alternative location to Chicago once we are ready. Please contact a admin immediately to receive assistance migrating your account and data to another server. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused but it is a strategical move that we must do for the production and development of future endeavors.

The average account migration takes anywhere from 10-15 minutes. The Create / Restore backup feature in DirectAdmin works wonders. We are more then happy to assist with migration of files and software. Please let us know if you need absolutely any assistance.

We appreciate your understanding.

Thank you,

ZNC software updated!

We have recently updated the ZNC software running on our systems. If you would like to setup a ZNC you can do so in a matter of minutes using the command ‘znc –makeconf’ Following the easy steps you can configure your own ZNC.

For those of you who do not know what ZNC is;

ZNC is a powerful BNC that allows you to maintain your presence on IRC, reconnect and things seem as if you had never left. All your personal private messages reload individually rather then having to play back a big sloppy log and spend hours sorting through it. It also reloads channels and channel logs up to x amount of lines. It can keep attempting to regain your nickname for networks such as EFnet. There are many options that you can spend days and days configuring and customizing. Thats just a short rundown of what it is. In my opinion ZNC vs psyBNC? There is no doubt that ZNC is better and more user friendly software. Need your own ZNC? Check out our dirt cheap single process hosting accounts, or our 4 process shell accounts!

Thanks and enjoy,

Eric

Stamina – Network Event 7/30/09

Between the hours of 3AM and 5:30AM, the Staminus network experienced several additional problems related to our AboveNet transit and a flapping bgp session.

After further investigation of the issue, we isolated the problem to a denial of service attack vulnerability. We believe this to have been the cause of the flapping. During these attacks, the session would repeatedly go down, leading to dampened routes. The attack would then roll over to another, much smaller transit, and take that circuit down as well.

At the current time, we are actively monitoring the session and will respond immediately if any other problems arise.

Stamina – Network Incident

At approximately 3:55PM PDT, our stamina.bittraffic.com data center BGP session to AboveNet bounced, causing a reroute of all traffic. This session bounced several more times until it was stablized at 4:05PM PDT. We have isolated the cause of this bouncing and have corrected what we believe to be the issue. We have also opened a case with the carrier to monitor this for further disturbance.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patronage.

Chicago Data Center Issues

Our Chicago facility has experienced network issues this evening due to core network hardware failure.

The issue has been resolved and the network is back to normal now.

The root cause of the problem was a failed 4×10GE blade on one of our core routers. When the traffic failed over to the other core router it has crashed the router thus causing complete network outage.

We have attempted to recover the core setup under existing configuration but once it became apparent that the blade was defective we had to move some uplinks and take the blade offline. We apologize about any inconvenience this issue has caused

Stamina – Network Event

At approximately 11:30AM PDT, one of the distribution routers at the IRVINE-1 data center began experiencing issues. This lead to a complete loss of service on that network segment. The data center began working on it immediately and had the problem resolved by approximately 11:50AM PDT.

The issue was caused when they allocated a new customer segment to the router. Due to the internal workings of the Cisco routers and switches, this lead to the automatic and internal deallocation of all customer segments on that router. This is potentially a bug that the data center will be investigating further.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,
